Basketball women Championships Cup venue changed

THE International Basketball Federation Women’s Championship Cup which will be held next week has been moved from South Africa to Angola.

The Women’s Championship Cup, which was slated for Johannesburg in South Africa, will now be held in Luanda, Angola from November 14 to November 20 with Harare City Hornets and Lakers from Bulawayo part of the cast.

The host federation, FIBA, made immediate changes after challenges in mobilising resources.

South Africa recently hosted the Men’s Basketball Africa League qualifiers and recovery from the task has not been swift for the nation to host another event.

The tournament will see teams battling for honours to qualify for the FIBA Africa Women’s Champions Cup.

Harare City Hornets and Lakers will join other teams from Angola, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.

Meanwhile, the first-ever beach volleyball series, which commenced at Birchnough Bridge goes into the second leg which will run from the 11th to the 12th of November.

The series is part of preparations for the 2023 African Beach volleyball Games to be held in Tunisia and the Continental Cup which will lead to the exciting Olympic Games.

In Hockey, the Zimbabwe Hockey Association has announced a 17-member women’s squad ahead of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

The games are slated for Accra, Ghana in January.

The team will be led by seasoned midfielder, Mary Campbell, who will be assisted by the veteran goalkeeper, Joydon Clipstone.

Also in the squad are Tinodiwanashe Elijah, Nicolle Grant, Simone Herbst, Natasha Hess, Iman Johnson, Kelly-Ann Kaulback, Amy-Lee Levey, Belinda Mirais, Jenna Mathieson (GK), Farirai Nengare, Jenna Palmer, Lilian Pope, Alexei Terblanche, Natalie Terblanche, Michelle Williams.
