PSL season gets underway

By ZBC Reporter

THE Premier Soccer League, PSL, returns after almost two years, with league matches getting underway next week.

Premier Soccer League action was last witnessed on December 14, 2019, as FC Platinum were crowned champions after a one-nil victory over Caps United at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no league action was possible and since then only the Chibuku Super Cup was squeezed in the difficult times albeit in a stop-start nature.

However, on the sixth of November after almost two years in the doldrums, PSL action returns.

FC Platinum will be looking to defend their crown and join Dynamos and Highlanders as the only clubs to have won four consecutive league titles.

Dynamos is Dynamos, they are the record Premier League champions with a whopping 22 titles, fifteen more than their next competitor Highlanders and 17 ahead of CAPS United.

Highlanders, the second most successful club, are unpredictable and with the crowd behind them, they would want to have a say in the championship race.

Caps United, Makepekepe is another perennial campaigner and will surely need to put their performance in the Chibuku Super Cup campaign behind them.

Ngezi Platinum and Chicken Inn will all provide a good challenge and will have a say come 2022.

Cranborne Bullets and Tenax will witness Premiership football for the first time, while Bulawayo City and Whawha will be hoping for a better return.

Six rounds of matches will be played this year before a festive season break with the league returning in February next year after the Africa Cup of Nations.

With fans now allowed, the opening weekend will surely be a colourful one with the list of approved venues expected to be released just before the season kickoffs.

Fans will however have to wait for the New Year to witness the Harare Derby featuring Capital City rivals Dynamos and CAPS United, The Battle of Zimbabwe between Dembare and Highlanders as well as the battle of the cities featuring Bosso and Makepekepe.

But before that, they will have witnessed Highlanders vs Ngezi Platinum, FC Platinum against Dynamos, Caps United up against Harare City and FC Platinum against Chicken Inn, among other matches.
