THE World Bank has applauded economic reforms being implemented by the Second Republic to revive the economy.
As the country pushes forward with the re-engagement agenda, the global response has largely been positive, with the World Bank commending the progress made so far.
Briefing the media after paying a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister; incoming World Bank Country Representative Madame Marjorie Mpundu applauded reforms that have been undertaken in the financial sector.
“The ministry of finance has done great work in stabilising the economy. A number of reforms have been undertaken and we will continue to work with the country in the next step of stabilising the economy and moving forward in the next fiscal year and coming years,” said Madame Marjorie Mpundu, the Incoming World Bank Country Representative.
The global body is interested in re-engaging the country as it moves to take its position in the community of nations.
“My hope is that we could re- engage with Zimbabwe, clear arrears to multilaterals and others and put Zimbabwe back into the international financial institutions,” she said.
Under the National Development Strategy One, the foreign ministry is moving ahead with economic diplomacy as a corner stone for the country’s attainment of an upper middle income economy by 2030.
