ZIMBABWE’s reengagement efforts are now paying-off after the country’s invitation to attend the 26th COP meeting in Glasgow, Scotland.
In a post-cabinet media briefing this Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa highlighted that Zimbabwe’s invitation to attend the Conference of the Parties (COP 26) is a major breakthrough in the country’s reengagement efforts.
“The nation is informed that His Excellency the President has been invited to attend the 26th COP meeting in Glasgow, Scotland. The Conference, which will be attended by Heads of State and Government as well as Ministers from over 200 countries will run from 31 October to 12 November, 2021.
“This is a major breakthrough of Zimbabwes diplomacy during the Second Republic, which is anchored on the Engagement and Re-engagement Policy guided by the mantra Friend to all and enemy to none, coming as it does after over two decades of non engagement at that level.”
Cabinet also resolved to maintain the Level 2 lockdown.
Some of the pertinent issues discussed in cabinet include the report back on the Global Business Forum Africa Expo 2020 Dubai which was attended by Vice President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga, proposed amendments to align the Environmental Management Act to the constitution and the rehabilitation of river ecosystems degraded by riverbed mining activities.
