Preparations for the 15th edition of the Intwasa Arts festival are now in full swing with the event set to be a hybrid model show that blends virtual and physical performances.
Organisers of the annual Intwasa Arts festival, which celebrates the diversity of local cultures in music, spoken word, theatre, dance and fashion, say the carnival will run concurrently with the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo from the 21st to the 25 of September.
“Intwasa Arts Festival is going to be a hybrid type meaning we will have a digital and a physical festival and we are excited that it is falling at the same time as ZITF. It means that people all over the world will also get to be a part of the show,” said Nkululeko Nkala, Intwasa Arts Festival Organiser.
Nkala also pointed out the festival will run under the theme: ‘re-ignite’ as a way of inspiring creatives to re-awaken the passion and drive to build the arts industry following the partial re-opening of the sector.
“Our theme for this year is re-ignite obviously speaks to the past 2years that has been filled with a lot of uncertainty when it comes to culture and events all because of the pandemic,” he explained.
The festival started in 2005 as a community arts event and has grown to become one of the biggest arts events in the country.
It has hosted regional and international artistes from Botswana, Swaziland, South Africa, United States of America, UK, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and Zambia.
