The First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Cookout Traditional Meal Competition has received a major boost after a local manufacturing company donated an assortment of goods.
Surface Wilmer Chief Executive Officer, Mr Sylvester Mangani, who handed over the consignment to the Angel of Hope Foundation, said the First Lady’s Traditional Meal Cookout Competition is good for the promotion of a healthy nation.
“We are very excited to partner Amai’s Cook Out Traditional Meal Competition and this is our part of the corporate responsibility,” he said.
Angel of Hope Foundation Board Chairperson, Mrs Molly Dingani, who received the donation on behalf of the First Lady, expressed gratitude to the company for supporting the initiative, which encourages the nation to prioritise traditional foods.
She said, “This endorsement will go very far in aiding the success of the vision of this competition. I would like to express my profound gratitude to surface for supporting this cause as we shall trek far and wide a cross the ten provinces encouraging healthy eating.
“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage Zimbabweans to be more health conscious of the foods they eat. Our traditional foods are Healthier than a bag of chips or fries if we want to ensure longevity as individuals we need to make wise decisions on what we ingest. Let us be particular to check for the caloric value of any food product.”
The donated items include cooking oil, margarine, washing and bathing soaps, gas stoves, baked beans and pots.
The First Lady’s Cookout Traditional Meal Competition is an initiative meant to showcase traditional food and its nutritional value, while also encouraging their incorporation in modern lifestyles.
Chinhoyi was the first to host the competition with participants showcasing their talent in preparing traditional dishes such as Road Runner Chicken, mufushwa and muboora, among others.
