ZIMBABWE is in the driving seat of the inaugural test series against Afghanistan after taking a 2-run lead at the end of day one.
Zimbabwe’s tour of Afghanistan got off to a best possible start with the visitors showing class and determination to take a two run lead after bowling the hosts out for a paltry 131 runs in 47 overs in Abu Dhabi.
Zimbabwe who chose to field first were on top of their game with Blessing Muzarabani the peak of the bowlers after taking 4-wickets off 48 runs.
He also managed three maidens after 12 overs while Victor Nyauchi took 3-wickets and a maiden off 34 runs in 10 overs.
Donald Tiripano had the highest number of maidens, 5 in 12 overs as he also took a wicket along the way, while skipper Sean Williams and all-rounder Sikandar Raza claimed a wicket apiece.
In response, Williams led by example as he scored 54 runs off 62 balls with an incredible 5 fours while raza was on 43.
Prince Masvaure (15) and Tarisai Musakanda (7) also contributed to Zimbabwe’s cause.
Ryan Burl will resume day two on 8 runs after 20 balls with his partner Williams.
With the way things are going, Zimbabwe are expected to remain in the hunt for victory.
