THE country’s premier tourism destination, Victoria Falls has received massive endorsement after being listed by a German publication as the second best must-visit-destinations in the world.
The endorsement puts Zimbabwe among the top destinations on the 50 ‘Longing For Far Away Places’ list compiled by a Germany travel publication, Fernweh Magazine.
The legendary Victoria Falls was listed on the second spot after Tanzania’s Zanzibar.
Other top ten destinations on the list include Dolomites in Italy, Virunga in Congo, Lofoten in Norway and Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro.
‘We Are Victoria Falls’ Campaign Consultant, Shelley Cox described the endorsement as a major boost to the destination and expressed the popular tourist destination’s readiness to welcome international tourists back to the resort city.
Considering that Germany is a key source market for travellers visiting Zimbabwe, it is hugely positive to see that Zimbabwe has come out as number two out of fifty of places far away that people are longing to travel to. This has created a huge amount of motivation and hope for stakeholders here on the ground as well as confidence that the recovery of tourism will come and that Zimbabwe will be a key destination in the future, she said.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Head Corporate Communications Mr Godfrey Koti is confident destination Zimbabwe will emerge stronger after the COVID-19 pandemic.
As destination Zimbabwe we are delighted to be named among the best in the world and for those tourists who are longing to come to Zimbabwe, you are welcome with open arms. We are just waiting for the restrictions to be lifted and beyond that we see a huge growth within the sector, noted Koti.
